On the Wednesday morning of August 23rd, 1995 in Georgetown Guyana, a little flowerchild entered the Earth.
Shmihta, derived from her middle name “Sushmita”, spent the first 8 years of her life in Enterprise, Guyana before migrating with her family to New York. Raised in Hollis, Queens, Shmihta attended elementary and middle school in Jamaica, Queens, where she learned to play piano at the age of 9, wrote and recorded her first song at the age of 11, and continued to be an Advanced Placement student with a knack for writing publication-worthy stories and poetry.
Attending Bayside High School in Queens, Shmihta was a member of the Music Program. She performed in choir at School Concerts and also sang as a part of her school’s Acapella group, where she was granted a chance to sing at Carnegie Hall with her upperclassmen.
Shmihta left high school with an A.P. Diploma, and went on to dual-major in English & Psychology at Brooklyn College, acquiring a double Bachelor’s in a 3-year timeframe. During these years, she worked alongside fellow engineers and musicians, diving deep into writing, recording and producing her own music and sound, while sharpening her musicianship and expertise.
After completing her academic tenure, Shmihta spent several years performing throughout the boroughs of New York, gracing stages such as Major Stage at SOB’s, The National Black Theatre, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Black Lady Theatre, and various local venues throughout Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx.
In November 2020, Shmihta moved to South Florida, where she’s been quietly developing her sound and artistry, meeting and working alongside an arsenal of incredible Broward and Miami talent, and some of the most prominent & legendary names in the game.
